FortiSandbox is Fortinet's sandboxing product for detecting zero-day malware, ransomware and other unknown file-based threats, now at its 5.2 release. It combines static and dynamic analysis with machine-learning models and neural networks that run in the product itself, and it draws on FortiGuard Labs threat intelligence to classify files and produce verdicts quickly. The vendor offers it in several forms: on-premises hardware appliances up to the 3000G model, virtual machine editions, a Fortinet-hosted cloud service with dedicated resources, and SaaS sandboxing that comes with FortiGate Cloud and other Fortinet products. It can work on its own or take files automatically from FortiGate firewalls, FortiMail, FortiWeb, FortiClient, FortiProxy and FortiADC, and it pairs with FortiSIEM, FortiNDR and FortiSOAR for investigation and response. Universal virtual machine options cover multiple operating systems, and detailed job reports show indicators and execution paths for analysts. Recent releases added faster dynamic scanning, broader attack-chain visibility, automatic image analysis and a redesigned dashboard. It is a natural fit for organizations standardized on Fortinet that need enterprise, operational technology or security operations sandboxing, and its deployment choices also suit air-gapped or tightly regulated sites.
